Informationand communication technologies and general developments in electronics, as well as domotics and robotics in particular, have advanced spectacularly in recent years. These technologies have become part of daily life. Using them is usually necessary and often indispensable. It is difficult to find a field where these technologies aren’t used as a facilitating tool.

These technologies fields are so numerous and so varied that misguided implementations are causing more than one digital divide, by being difficult to use, because of the lack of design criteria, and incompatibility between devices, among other reasons.

People with functional limitations, caused either by disability or by ageing, and, in general, people with special needs are increasing are an increasingly important part of the population. Lack of awareness of these new technologies and difficulty in using them are also increasingly important for these persons.

It may seem evident that these technologies can and must help everybody, especially those with functional limitations, both to carry out day-to-day tasks, and to integrate into society, so that they can use their abilities to contribute to social development.
